Epilators hair removal systems, for those unaware, are hair removal devices with lots of little tweezers in the head. Those tweezers pull hair out, one by one. Sounds painful, right?

You’d be correct – at first; epilating takes some getting used to. But with use, one easily becomes accustomed to the sensation of the epilator at work – the pain turns into a small tingle that’s not even unpleasant.

I personally own the Emjoi epilator you see there to the left. I picked this one as it has 72 tweezer heads which means it will get more hairs, more quickly therefore reducing the time I need to spend shaving my legs. It also has a wider head so takes fewer passes to clear the hair on my legs.

Finally, I like that the Emjoi epilator is corded which means I don’t have to worry about charging yet another appliance. It will tweeze for as long as I need it to.

Pros and Cons Of Using An Epilator Hair Remover

Epilators do take more time to clear hair than razors so you’ll need to set aside 20-40 minutes or so to do your legs. And, they do take time to get used to.

Rest assured though – your legs will be smooth and silky afterward.

The extra time spent shaving one’s legs is the negative but, the positives of an epilator can’t be denied:

• Less stubble as hairs as short as 0.5 mm are removed
• Hair is removed by the root so return growth is much slower
• Hair that is regrown is sparser and softer than when shaving with a razor
• Easily go 7-10 days without epilating again, even in the summer!

Epilators are used to remove hair from the face, underarms, bikini line (and more!), legs – you name it and a quality epilator can remove it!

Note: it’s best if you use a scrubby in the shower or bath before epilating as that will get rid of dead skin and allow the hairs to rise so they can easily be removed.

Also, if you read the reviews on Amazon.com, you’ll see a whole lot of women complaining about the pain. This is the nature of the beast! You can’t expect a party when your hair is being removed by the root. But, trust me here – it gets better very quickly. Also, it’s less painful if your hair is shorter rather than long.

Corded Epilators

As noted above, I prefer a corded epilator as I always know I have plenty of juice. This means I can go slower and get more hairs.

Cordless Wet/Dry Epilators

I’ve never used wet epilation but reviewers really like epilating during a shower or bath. They’re obviously battery-operated so you’ll have to be aware of charging the battery.

Other Items To Help You Be Successful Epilating

For the best experience, you’ll definitely want to exfoliate prior to epilating. Exfoliation removed dead skin and preps the underlying hairs for epilation.

Also, a very strong, bright light will help you see what you’re doing.

Finally, there’s some creams you can apply after epilating that might help if you feel the sting. But, buck it up buttercup – it gets way better.
