I had never heard of bed fans before one came in my door as a gift from my darling boyfriend (we consider it self-preservation on his part since I’m menopausal and he’s, well, not….).

Basically, a bed fan is a tall, thin fan that sits on the floor at the foot of the bed (actually, you can place a bed fan anywhere near the bed). Covering the top of the fan with a sheet directs the air right onto the bed – now, that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout! And, since bed fans are vertically adjustable, the fan works well with our regular thickness queen mattress along with my extra thick king mattress with its cooling mattress pad.

When we’re in the king bed, the bed fan, under the sheet, cools my side of the bed while just giving just the slightest breeze to John’s side of the bed. I have the bed fan with wireless remote so I can easily vary the air flow onto the bed, depending on if a hot flash or night sweat is imminent or not.

I’ve also found that the bed fan allows me to keep the room warmer than I normally would, which John sure appreciates. And, as a bonus, the fan makes a bit of white noise as it runs (not obnoxious at all) and lulls us to sleep.
