A dear friend of mine (who shall remain nameless) suffers from hot flashes and night sweats so she never travels anywhere without a personal fan. She’s even been known to rearrange hotel room furniture so that she has air blowing right on her face at night – she claims that this helps her prevent hot flashes and night sweats. And, even if she does sweat, the fan dries the perspiration quickly. I wasn’t sure I believed her until….
I tried her method. I bought myself a personal fan (truth be told, it was bought for me by my boyfriend in an attempt to make me nicer….). And, since the moment I got my little personal fan, I’ve taken to Kim’s (oops!) night time measures to avoid night sweats when traveling. And, yes, I’ve even been known to rearrange the hotel furniture once or twice myself.
Here’s some of my favorite personal fans in my arsenal to avoid menopause symptoms:
The Original Handy Personal Fan
My favorite personal fan, The Original Handy, has saved my sleep and my relationship many times over.
This personal fan is a great size and fits comfortably in one’s hand. Just add a bit of water to the enclosed sponge, turn on the fan, and, voila! Instant cool air. In fact, the Original Handy personal fan can cool the air by as much as 10 degrees – that’s significant to one who suffers quick hot flashes.
The Personal Handy can operate both on batteries or on AC power (note: bring more batteries along than you think you might need….). At night, when traveling, I just plug it into a normal plug, prop it up on the nightstand, and I’m confident that I’ll have a blissful night sleep.

Personal Fans For The Desk
When I was working, I well remember hot flashes hitting while I was sitting in my office, minding my own business. Since I didn’t have the ability to turn down the thermometer, I did then next best thing which was switch on my little personal office fan. Generally, the cool air was enough to stave off the hot flash.

Floor Fans For Larger Spaces
My office was fairly good size so I actually bought one of these nice full-size floor fans. The only problem I had with this larger fan was that, if my papers weren’t held down, they were scattered to the wind (literally) when I turned the thing on. It was a bit of a learning curve to batten everything down but, boy, was it worth it!
